2025 All American National Junior Show

The All American is the National Junior Brahman Show, held every summer and open to AJBA members nationwide. This premier event features leadership contests, showmanship competition, and cattle exhibitions, giving youth the opportunity to showcase both bulls and females in their respective divisions.

The Bred-and-Owned Show allows members to exhibit cattle they have bred and raised themselves, highlighting their dedication and skill in producing their own champions.

The F-1 Female Show provides an opportunity for members to exhibit Golden Certified/Certified F-1 females. These females must be certified through the ABBA F-1 Program Certificate Option, and certificates must be in the exhibitor’s name by May 1, 2025.

Entry packets will be available beginning April 18, with entries officially opening on May 1. A complete list of guidelines and rules will be included in the packet.

Industry Outlook: A Pivotal Moment for the U.S. Cattle Market — and the Role of the Brahman Breed

By Paul Maulsby

Executive Vice President, American Brahman Breeders Association

Every now and then, it’s worth taking a step back to evaluate where we are—not just in the day-to-day, but in the broader picture of the cattle industry. It’s easy to get caught up in routine. We’re busy calving, weaning, breeding, marketing—and before we know it, we haven’t paused to ask ourselves where we’re going and how our program fits into the bigger puzzle.

Lately, I’ve been doing just that. Looking around at where we are as an industry, and more specifically, where the Brahman breed fits into the 2025 beef cattle landscape. Here are a few things I’ve observed.

Reminders for Members

As we work together to keep everything running smoothly, here are a few important reminders for ABBA members:

Account Payments

Please make sure your account is current. Outstanding balances can delay processing.

Registering F1s

  • Members looking to register F1 cattle can send applications directly to Madison Rose, [email protected].
  • If you do not have an F1 account, we’ll need to set one up before processing.
  • F1s do not require DNA or a name.
  • You can choose to receive certificates only or certificates with ear tags.

Birth Queue Error Messages

If you’re getting an error while trying to register an animal, here’s what to do:

  • “Sire needs genotype” – Contact Allison, [email protected] to start the DNA process.
  • “AI certificate needed from Person A (12345) or Person B (67891)” – Contact the owner of the sire to request an AI certificate.
  • “ET certificate needed from Person A (12345)” – Contact the owner of the donor or sire for the ET certificate.
  • “All ET calves born in 2024 must have a genotype on file prior to registration through the ABBA” – Contact Allison to begin DNA processing.
  • “PHN is already in use” – You cannot register two animals of the same sex with the same Private Herd Number (PHN). A male and a female may share the same PHN, but not two of the same sex.

Color Clarification

ABBA only accepts black, red, grey, or speckled as acceptable colors for registered Brahmans.

If you have questions or need assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out!

Not All Cuts Are Created Equal… Cow-Calf Production Expenses in 2025: What Really Needs to Be Cut?

Adapted from original article by Jason M. Warner, Kansas State University Extension Cow-Calf Specialist

In a time of historic cattle prices and tight inventories, the cow-calf sector is poised for profitability—but not without challenges. Input costs have climbed right alongside market prices, prompting many producers to ask: What can I cut to stay profitable?

Factors Affecting Early Pregnancy Loss In Cattle

Open cows are a costly problem for producers. Less cows bred and birthing a live calf means less profit in the hands of producers. Researchers continue to look at factors related to why cows are open.

On a Beef Cattle Institute podcast reproductive physiologist, Bob Larson, DVM and Brad White, DVM, discuss a recent study, based on more than 80 research articles, compiled by researchers at Texas A&M University.

2025 Across-Breed EPD Table and Improvements

Across-Breed EPD (ABEPD) Adjustment Factors: National Cattle Evaluation (NCE), and the resulting Expected Progeny Differences (EPDs), have resulted in substantial genetic change since their inception in the 1970s.

However, EPDs are generally only comparable within breed because of differences in the genetic base. Since 1993, the U.S. Meat Animal Research Center (USMARC) has produced a table of factors to adjust the EPDs of cattle so that the merit of individuals can be compared across breeds.
