ABBA Welcomes Summer Intern

HOUSTON, Texas – The American Brahman Breeders Association team is excited to welcome Emily Desormeaux as the 2019 Summer ABBA Intern.  Emily grew up in Hitchcock, Texas which is a small town by the Gulf Coast.  Agriculture has always been a large portion of Emily’s life.  In high school, she showed pigs, goats, and steers, with her focus being her Simbrah steers.  In addition, Emily was very active in 4-H including competing in beef quiz bowl contests, horse shows, and serving as a Texas 4-H Livestock Ambassador.  In college, Emily continued to grow her passion for agriculture by interning with Texas 4-H, Sierra Franks photography, and Texas Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, as well as serving as a volunteer for the Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo since 2015 when she joined the Junior Rodeo Committee.

In May, Emily graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agricultural Communications from Sam Houston State University, which is where she also plans to pursue a Master of Science in Agriculture.  “I have been interested in the position ever since I first started looking into internships my freshman year of college, so when that opportunity finally presented itself in March, I knew I had to see it through”, says Emily Desormeaux, ABBA Summer Intern.  “I have always loved the Brahman breed and the impact the breed has on the beef industry, so being able to work with the association and its membership has been great”.

“I am thrilled to have Emily working with the ABBA office this summer!” declares Ashley Hughes, ABBA Executive Vice President.  “She is beyond qualified and capable of handling a range of office responsibilities, and we are excited to also utilize her communications skills for a number of summer projects.  Be on the lookout for Emily’s upcoming work promoting Brahman cattle and educating about the Association.  This is an exciting time for ABBA and we are proud to have Emily working with the staff this summer.”
