Scholarships & Awards

AJBA presents more than $50,000 in scholarships thanks to the donations of many generous supporters. June 1st is the application deadline.

Eligibility

General scholarships are available to AJBA members who are graduating seniors. Applications are due June 1 each year, and scholarships are awarded each summer at the All American Awards Banquet during the National Junior Show.

AJBA is grateful for the support and donations possible for its scholarship program, including the Jeff Smith Memorial, Billy Dan Lindley Memorial, Barlow-Amanda Pounds Memorial, Heritage Cattle Company, Louisiana Brahman Association, Joe Butt Memorial, Red River Brahman Alliance and more. 

Barlow-Pounds Memorial Scholarships

Available to AJBA members who are graduating seniors or enrolled in undergraduate studies at an accredited university, the Barlow-Pounds Memorial Scholarships require a separate scholarship application.

 

Applications are also due June 1 each year, and scholarships are awarded each summer at the All American Awards Banquet during the National Junior Show.

La Muneca & Friends ANIMO Award

Presented every year at the AJBA All American Banquet to a unique AJBA member of any age who possesses what ANIMO represents — spirit, commitment, desire, energy, passion, leadership and volunteerism.

 

It’s a $500 award and the recipient is selected by the ABBA Youth Activities Committee Chairman, ABBA President, All American Coordinator, ABBA Executive Vice President and a Guerra Family Member.

 

The 2023 ANIMO Award recipients were Paul B. Hayes IV, Baxter Whitworth, and Kolby Joe Kocian.

Shawnee Bailey Memorial Award

The highest award a member can receive at the completion of their junior show career, one senior division nominee (16 to 18 years old) is selected per state. Nominees should have an outgoing personality, be academically successful, and have been in the AJBA program for at least three years.

 

Nominees are interviewed at the All American National Junior Brahman Show and the award is presented at the annual awards banquet.

 

The 2023 Shawnee Bailey Memorial Award Recipient was Beth Lambert of Texas.

V8 Outstanding Junior Breeder Award

An award that recognizes junior members who have taken being involved in the AJBA one step further and started to build a herd of their own.

 

The recipient is selected based on an application with primary emphasis on Brahman activities and accomplishment’s of the member’s Brahman Breeding Program. The award is presented each summer at the All American Awards Banquet during the National Junior Show.

 

The 2023 V8 Outstanding Junior Breeder Award Recipient was Klaire Fontenot of Louisiana. 

Australian Exchange Program

AJBA members between 18 and 25 years old can apply for an all-expense paid trip to Australia. Each year, AJBA sends one lucky member abroad to spend up to three months learning more about the Brahman breed and the Australian breeders. 

 

This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is a fun and educational trip. Scheduling is based on the recipient’s availability.

 

The AJBA congratulates Kaitlyn Kempen, recipient of the 2019 AJBA Australian Student Exchange Scholarship. This award is given annually to an AJBA member that demonstrates exceptional leadership skills, as well as having a proven devotion to the American Brahman and beef industry.
