2014 National Brahman Show in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic

The national cattlemen’s association,” Patronato Nacional de Ganaderos” and Asociacion Dominicana de Criadores de Cebu (ASOCEBU) hosted their national agriculture show, “Feria Agropecuaria Nacional 2014” in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.  This show took place on the newly expanded fairgrounds owned by the national cattlemen’s association, March 15-23, 2014.

Armelinda Ibarra, Alfredo & Josefina Muskus, Alfredo Muskus Jr.,  Will Detering, Michael Martin and The Brahman Journal were honored to be invited to this event, which was graciously hosted by the President of ASOCEBU, Jose Mallen. Many spectators diligently watched the split Brahman Shows consisting of 50 head of Red Brahman cattle and 43 Grey Brahmans judged by Jairo Barreneche of Colombia.  Other breeds shown during this event were Simmental, Charolais and crossbred cattle.

U.S. representatives enjoyed the two day show and visited with many of their established contacts and made new friends during this trip.  ABBA was recognized for their longtime support and great relationship with ASOCEBU and it’s members, as well as Santa Elena Ranch for their contributions to the development of the cattle industry in this country.  There were other recognitions, most notably an award presented to Ing. Maximo Suero for his dedication and support of the ASOCEBU.

In conclusion of the National Show, President Mallen and his family hosted a wonderful Field Day at his ranch, Hacienda La Casualidad.  The events included ranch visit, meal and a great opportunity to meet and visit with producers and guests at this event.  The day ended with a special treat by Secretary of ASOCEBU, Pedro & Paola Santana who entertained the group at a nearby restaurant, Boca Marina, situated just above the beautiful Caribbean ocean.
